We have another brand new day ahead of us. It’s called October 25, 2020. No doubt it will have more of the bad than yesterday. More people infected, more people hospitalized and unfortunately, more people dead. It isn’t like we weren’t told this was coming. I’m going to attempt to ignore reality as much as possible and find some good things to enjoy. It’s a beautiful day in Florida for an example. It’s also International Artist Day, Mother-In-Law Day, National Greasy Foods Day, Punk Day, National I Care About You Day, Pumpkin Day and my selection, International Pasta Day. Now to what happened: On this day in 1854 The infamous “Charge of the Light Brigade” during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War was made. Alfred Lord Tennyson in his poem would end each verse with “Into the valley of death rode the six hundred”. In 1870 on this day, postcards are first used. In 1938 on this day, The Archbishop of Dubuque, Francis J. L. Beckman, denounces Swing music as “a degenerated musical system… turned loose to gnaw away at the moral fiber of young people”, warning that it leads down a “primrose path to hell”. I wonder what he would have thought of heavy metal? Lastly, on this day in 1964, Ed Sullivan hosts the Rolling Stones for the first time. Today is Pablo Picasso’s birthday. He said, “My mother said to me, ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.’ Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.” This is also the day in 1992 that the King of the road, Roger Miller dies at the age of 56. He said, “It’s one thing to have talent. It’s another to figure out how to use it.” I agree with Roger. Hope you have an excellent day. Abide
