Here we are in the time/space of 02/12/2020. I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to Feb. 22. The big one comes in 2022. I will throw a party. Let’s see what events are commemorated today: It’s NAACP Day, Hug Day, Freedom To Marry Day, National Penny Day, Plum Pudding Day and Lincoln’s Birthday. Let’s start with a quote from Lincoln, “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” It’s all about attitude. Now to the history of today: In 1554, after being the Queen of England for nine days, Lady Jane Grey is executed for treason. She was 16 years. In 1793 the 1st US fugitive slave law passed which required the return of escaped slaves. In 1870 Utah becomes the second territory in the United States to pass a law allowing women the vote, after Wyoming in 1869. In 1955 President Eisenhower sends 1st US advisors to South Vietnam. I didn’t know that. In 1967 Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are busted for drugs. In 1994 on this date, “The Scream” by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (1893 pastel version) is stolen in Oslo. It was recovered 3 months later. Since this is the Lincoln’s birthday (1809) a few more quotes are in order: “I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.” And, “How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn’t make it a leg.” This is also the date in 1804 when the philosopher Immanuel Kant assumed room temperature. He said “It is not God’s will merely that we should be happy, but that we should make ourselves happy.” Now I will begin my daily pursuit of happiness. Hope you catch whatever you’ve decided to chase. Abide.
