It’s now November 4th, 2020 and we don’t know who’s won yet. We might by the end of this day. I’m reminded of the Joseph de Maistre quote “Nations get the government they deserve”. I’m sure we will too. We’re in a bad place no matter who wins. We’re either in it together or on our own. We’ll find out soon. This is Skeptics Day, International Stress Awareness Day, King Tut Day, National Candy Day, National Easy Bake Oven Day, National Healthy Eating Day and Use Your Common Sense Day. Since I am a skeptic, I’ll go with that. Now let’s review some history: On this day in 1646 Massachusetts uses death penalty for denying that Holy Bible is God’s word. On this day in 1841 the first wagon train arrives in California. In 1879 on this day James Ritty patents first cash register, to combat stealing by bartenders in his saloon in Dayton, Ohio. In 1939 on this day the first air conditioned automobile (Packard) exhibited, Chicago, Illinois. Finally, in 1963 on this day John Lennon utters his infamous line at a Royal Variety Performance “Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And for the rest of you, if you’ll just rattle your jewelry…” in London. Today is Will Rodgers birthday. That means a lot of really good quotes are available. Here are some: “Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.” “Everything is funny, as long as it’s happening to somebody else.” And “It isn’t what we don’t know that gives us trouble, it’s what we know that ain’t so.” That ends this post. Now we wait to see what our democracy gives birth to. Abide.
