The 7th day of November 2022 is now here. It feels good to be back home again. John Denver was right. Having a nice warm loveable place to call home is something to appreciate and be grateful for. Today is Hug a Bear Day (Teddy that is), Job Action Day, Little League Girls Day, National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day, and Notary Public Day. Not a long list but it has the word “chocolate” in it so it can’t be a bad list. Now some history. On this day in 1637 Anne Hutchinson was tried in the Massachusetts Bay Colony as a heretic. Anne was well educated and decided to begin publicly disagreeing with the sermons preached by the Puritan clergy. She was expelled from the Colony, settled in what is now the Bronx and killed by Indians. The end of Anne. On this day in 1775 Lord Dunmore promised freedom to male slaves who joined the British army to fight in the Revolutionary War. On this day in 1800 it became illegal for women in Paris to wear trousers without a Police permit. The law was repealed in 2013. In 1837 on this day abolitionist printer Elijah P. Lovejoy was murdered by a pro-slavery mob trying to protect his printing shop from being destroyed a third time. On this day in 1910 the first air freight shipment (Dayton to Columbus, Ohio) was undertaken by the Wright Brothers and department store owner Max Moorhouse. In 1917 on this day the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was proclaimed with Vladimir Lenin as the leader. In 1918 on this day the Spanish Flu reached Western Samoa killing 20% (7,5643) of the population by year’s end. On this day in 1931 Mao Zedong proclaimed the Chinese People’s Republic. In 1944 on this day FDR is re-elected for a 4th term. Today’s dead person is Eleanor Roosevelt. A truly remarkable lady. Eleanor said, “For our own success to be real, it most contribute to the success of others.” “Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.” “Some people are going to leave a mark on this world, while other will leave a stain.” Last one: “Today is the oldest you’ve ever been and the youngest you’ll ever be again.” Abide.
