It is November 13th, 2020. Yesterday Dr. Fauci told us that “Help is on the way”, “The Calvary is coming”, “We’re almost there” and “Hang in there for a little longer”. Music to my ears. The vaccine that we will soon be getting is new science. It’s a synthetic DNA. I’m anxious to have it pumped into my arm. I’m anxious to return to Normal! That is the near future and we are in the present. Not a lot of holidays today. It’s Indian Pudding Day (corn meal, flour, milk sugar and cream), Actors Day, Kindness Day and Start A Rumor Day. I’m going with Kindness. We can all use more of that. Onto the history of what happened on 11/13 through the ages: On this day in 1789, Ben Franklin writes “Nothing is certain except death and taxes”. In 1875 Harvard-Yale game is 1st college football contest with uniforms. What did they wear before this day? In 1895 the 1st shipment of canned pineapple from Hawaii. Don’t know where it was shipped to. In 1952 the first false fingernails sold. Finally, in 1965 Director Kenneth Tynan says the word “Fuck” on BBC. I’m betting someone in the studio said “what did he just say?.” Today happens to be Robert Lewis Stevenson’s birthday (1850). His quotations are insightful. “A friend is a gift you give yourself”. “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant”. And “Wine is bottled poetry”. I guess that the theme of this post is be kind, treasure your friends, do something today that will make tomorrow better and this evening, have a glass of wine to finish what you can make a good day.
