I woke up in the time/space of September 22, 2020. Coffee, check the weather, write a post just like yesterday and the day before. Each day a replica of the last. Somewhere mid post it becomes a new day to me and not a replication. I get to look back at what mankind did to each other, the discoveries they made and the way they lived their lives. Just a peek but enough to get a sense of them. I also get a new list compiled to remind me of what is going on today. It’s Dear Diary Day, International Day Of Radiant Peace Day, National Girls Night In Day, National Hobbit Day, National Ice Cream Cone Day, National White Chocolate Day, Proposal Day and the First Day Of Fall. I’ll go with the Ice Cream Cone. I see one of those in my near future. No let’s peek through the curtain of time. On this day in 1692 the last 8 people were hanged for witchcraft in the US, 19 hanged overall. This is the day in 1789 that the US Congress passed an act requiring the first Postmaster General to report to the President through the Secretary of the Treasury. This is still the way it works. In 1862 on this date, President Lincoln announces that he will free all of the slaves in America on January 1st, 1863. From 1800 to 1862, slavery was America’s largest financial asset. On this day in 1906 New Zealand Domestic workers call for a 68-hour working week. How many hours was considered normal there? Finally, on this date in 1955 Hurricane Janet, kills 500 in the Caribbean. This is the day in 1999 that the actor George C. Scott dies at the age of 71. One of my favorite actors. George said, “Truth is not always a pleasant thing”. This is also the day in 2015 that Yogi Berra assumed room temperature at the age of 90. Yogi said, “Half the lies they tell about me ain’t true”. That’s enough for today. Be careful out there, we’ve just gone North of 200,000 dead and now it’s fall and that’s not good. Wear the mask. Abide.
