We now occupy the time/space of January 7, 2022. A year ago, on this day I got my first vaccination for Covid and life started to move slowly back toward normality. Not quite there yet unfortunately. The CDC data says that 78.7% of the people over 5 have received at least 1 vaccination shot. That’s higher than I expected. It should be 99.9%. Moving on. Today is Harlem Globetrotter’s Day, I’m Not Going To Take It Anymore Day, National Tempura Day, National Old Rock Day, National Bobble Head Day and National Pass Gas Day. Yes, it is Fart Day. We all do it, we all laugh at it, now we can all celebrate the fact that our digestive systems produce gas which must be expelled. Now to history: in 1610 on this day Galileo Galilei discovered the first three moons of Jupiter. In 1790 the French Revolution began with a major riot as people demand lower bread prices. The Queen, Marie Antoinette said “Let them eat brioche” (wasn’t cake). I’m sure she regretted saying that when she was beheaded in 1793. On this day in 1915 Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm approved the bombing of Britain excluding London because he didn’t want to risk killing any of his relatives in the Royal family. On this day I’m going to use the quotes of Zora Neale Hurston who was black author anthropologist and filmmaker born in 1891. Zora said, “Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It’s beyond me.” The lady had style. Zora also said, “Those that don’t got it, can’t show it. Those that got it, can’t hide it.” “You got to go there to know there.” I’ll end with “Want won’t kill you half as quick as worry will.” Happy Birthday Zora Hurston. Abide.
