This is the 18th day of April in the year 2023. I work with a feeling of gratitude. I am a lucky person. I know people who really believe they got to where they’re at by themselves and their hard work. The most important factor in my success is being lucky. Did I have to work hard? Sure, but lots of people work hard. Most don’t end up living like I’m able to. I’m lucky and thankful to be so. Today is Income Tax Pay Day, Holocaust Remembrance Day, International Amateur Radio Day, National Animal Crackers Day, National Lineman Appreciation Day, National Transfer Money to Your Daughter’s Account Day, Newspaper Columnist’s Day, and Pinata Day. Now some history to see who was lucky back when: On this day in 1775 Paul Revere and William Dawes rode from Charlestown to Lexington warning the “regulars are coming!” On this day in 1783 George Washington issued a General Order announcing the end of hostilities with Britan and authorized an extra ration of alcohol for the lucky troops. On this day in 1845 a US flagged whaling ship was officially permitted to visit Edo, Japan, the first ship to do so in 220 years, because it had rescued shipwrecked Japanese sailors. This is the unlucky day in 1906 that the San Francisco earthquake struck killing 4,000 and destroying 75% of the city. On this day in 1924 Simon & Schuster published the first crossword puzzle book. On this day in 1943 the Japanese mastermind of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, was shot down and killed by US air force fighters from Guam after the “Magic” codebreaking team intercepted and decoded his flight plan. He is the first quote person today. Yamamoto said, “A military man can scarcely pride himself on having smitten a sleeping enemy.” The is the day one of my favorite quote sources, Albert Einstein stopped living. He said, “Weak people revenge. Strong people forgive. Intelligent People Ignore.” “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.” “don’t listen to the person who has the answers; listen to the person who has the questions.” “Do not grow old, no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born.” That’s a good place to end this post. Abide.
