November 2nd, 2020 is here. It’s the last day of campaign chaos soon to be replaced by counting chaos and then the lame duck chaos that will shift into the inauguration chaos. If you’re looking for smooth waters, fill your bathtub. You need a dark sense of humor to get through these times with a smile on your face. I am fortunate to have one of those. He was right, we was wrong, but we strung him up and now he’s gone.” Mel Blanc’s stone says “That’s all folks”. Enough of that. On this day in 1859, John Brown is found guilty of murder, conspiring slaves to revolt and treason against Virginia and sentenced to hang. This day in 1889 is when North Dakota becomes 39th & South Dakota becomes 40th state in the United States. On this day in 1917 In WWI the 1st US soldiers are killed in combat: James Gresham, Thomas Enright and Merle Hay. This is the day in 1944 that Auschwitz begins gassing inmates. On this day in 1954 Strom Thurmond is the 1st senator elected by write-in vote (South Carolina). This is the birthday of Marie Antoinette (1755). Her most famous quote is “Let them eat cake”. I like this one better: “I was a queen, and you took away my crown; a wife, and you killed my husband; a mother, and you deprived me of my children. My blood alone remains: take it, but do not make me suffer long.” I’ll end this post with a quote from George Bernard Shaw who stopped living on this day in 1950.
