We’ve reached June 26 2021. It’s Saturday which means for those of us who no longer work, it’s just like any other day. I’m so grateful to be living my life. The last two lines in the chorus of one of Jimmy Buffett’s songs is “How did I get so lucky, Who gets to live like this”. That’s the way I feel every day. June 26 is Beautician’s Day, Forgiveness Day, Canoe Day if you’re in Canada, National Food Truck Day, Great American Picnic Day, National Chocolate Pudding Day and my pick: Tropical Cocktails Day. Easy choice for me. This is the day in 1498 that the toothbrush was invented in China using boar bristles. On this day in 1721 Dr Zabdiel Boylston gave the 1st smallpox inoculations in America. On this day in 1848 the US enacted the 1st pure food law. This is the day in 1917 that the 1st US troops arrived in France during World War I. They brought the “Spanish Flu” with them. It should have been named the Kansas Flu because that’s where it started. Lastly, on this day in 1977 Elvis Presley sang in Indianapolis, the last performance of his career. This is the day that Pearl S. Buck was born in 1892. Ms. Buck was a Nobel Prize winner author. Pearl said, “None but the ignorant can be bored by life. To the lovers of learning, life is pure adventure shared with adventurers.” I agree with Pearl. The rapper Gza suggests that we “Live a life full of humility, gratitude, intellectual curiosity, and never stop learning.” Einstein said “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” Their clear advice is to question, research and discover. It has always worked for me. With that, I’ll end this post. Abide.
