It has become June 22, 2021. It isn’t just another day. For some of us it will be their last one. For others, their very first one. There will be victories and defeat, tears of joy and tears from pain. For most of us, June 22 is a blank canvas. What are you going to paint on yours? Remember, it’s all about your attitude. Today is National Chocolate Éclair Day, National HVAC Tech Day, Stupid Guy Thing Day and National Onion Rings Day. I’m going with chocolate in a pastry. This is the day in 1611 that Henry Hudson is set adrift in Hudson Bay by mutineers on his ship Discovery and is never seen again. I wonder what Henry did to piss them off? This date in 1633 Galileo Galilei is forced to recant his Copernican views that the Earth orbits the Sun by the Pope. The Vatican waited until Oct 31, 1992 to admit it was wrong. This is the day in 1944 that US President Franklin Roosevelt signed the “GI Bill of Rights” (Servicemen’s Readjustment Act). Finally, this is the day in 1990 that Florida passed a law which prohibits wearing a thong bathing suit? I never knew that. I’ve seen some young ladies breaking that law. This is the day in 2008 that humanity lost George Carlin. He’s one of my favorite comedians and philosophers. I’m going to end this post with several of his observations: “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.” “There’s a humorous side to every situation. The challenge is to find it.” “Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music.” I’ll end with those because George’s advice is to beware of group think, look for the humor in every situation and dance to your own music. I think I will. Abide.
