It is now the day before Thanksgiving 2020, November 25. Around 70,000 of us won’t see Christmas because of the COVID. I’m tired of the isolation, the mask, the social distancing too. But, I do want to see Christmas this year and then New Years as the ball drops into an largely empty Times Square. We are entering the most dangerous 3 months of this pandemic. All it will take for you to become a statistic is to get too close to someone who has it and you will have it too. I’m not telling you how to live your life, I’m telling you that we will miss you if you go. With that happy thought, It’s Tie One On Day (apron), Blasé Day, International Day Of The Elimination Of Violence Against Women Day, National Parfait Day (my pick) and National Juke Box Day. Now to the history of November 25th: On this day in 1792, the first Famer’s Almanac is published. In 1834 on this day Delmonico’s, one of NY’s finest restaurants, provides a meal of soup, steak, coffee & half a pie for 12 cents. On this day in 1939 a cyclone slams south eastern India with high winds and a 40 foot storm surge, destroying city of Coringa. Storm waves sweep inland, destroying 20,000 ships and killing an estimated 300,000 people. On this day in 1947 the 1st systematic Hollywood blacklist is instituted, denying employment to American entertainment professionals due to alleged Communist ties or sympathies. The Change Culture isn’t new. ON 1986 on this day, President Regan reveals the secret arms deal in the Iran Contra affair. This is the birthday (1935) of the Industrialist Andrew Carnegie. He is one of the richest men to ever live. He gave away almost 90 percent of his fortune to charities and foundations. Andrew said, “Surplus wealth is a sacred trust which its possessor is bound to administer in his lifetime for the good of the community.” I wish there were more people like Mr. Carnegie. Have a good day and wear the damned mask. Abide.
