This day is October 25, 2023. Yesterday was fun. I think I’ll have another one. One of the great things about being retired (and being a Parrot Head and living in the Villages) is you can have a great party on a Tuesday afternoon. A golf cart bar crawl is scheduled for this afternoon. Who gets to live like this? I do. Today is International Artists Day, National Cartoonists Against Crime Day, National Greasy Foods Day, National I Care About You Day, Sourest Day, World Pasta Day, and World Pizza Makers Day. Onto history: On this day in 1415 the Battle of Agincourt was fought between the English and French armies. The outnumbered English won because most of their army were made up of long bows which could reach 220 yards. As usual, the army with the best technology and tactics usually wins. On this day in 1521Roman Emperor Charles V bans wooden buildings in Amsterdam and decreed that all new buildings be built from stone. On this day in 1854 the “Charge of the Light Brigade” in the Crimean War took place. It was immortalized by the poem of the same name written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. On this day in 1960 the first electronic wristwatch went on sale in NYC. On this day in 1963 anti-JFK “Wanted for Treason” pamphlets were scattered in Dallas. This is the day in 1975 that Columbia Records released “Still Crazy After All These Years” which was the 4th solo album by Paul Simon. The person we will end today’s post with is the poet and author Geoffrey Chaucer (Canterbury Tales). He said, “All good things must come to an end.” “Time and tide wait for no man.” “Women naturally desire the same 6 things as I: They want their husbands to be brave, wise, rich, generous with money, obedient to the wife, and lively in bed.” “Forbid us something, and that thing we desire.” “If were not foolish young, were foolish old.” “He who accepts his poverty unhurt I’d say is rich although he lacked a shirt. But truly poor are they who whine and fret and covet what they cannot hope to get.” Abide.
