February 4, 2024 has arrived. I’m hoping for a good day. Going to try to get the best out of it that I can. I’ve got plenty of reasons to have a good one or a bad one. Which would I rather live? Easy choice. Today is Liberace Day, National Hemp Day, Homemade Soup Day, National Quacker Day, National Stuffed Mushroom Day, National Sweater Day and Rosa Parks Day. Now to the history of February 4th. This is the day in 1794 that the French National Convention (think French Revolution) abolished slavery. In 1797 on this day an earthquake in Quito, Ecuador killed 41,000. In 1824 J W Goodrich introduced rubber galoshes to the public. This is the day in 1849 that the University of Wisconsin began in 1 room with 20 students. In 1866 Mary Baker Eddy reportedly cured her injuries by opening a bible. She is the founder of the Christian Science. On this day in 1938, Hitler takes control of the German Army and puts Nazis in key positions. Finally, this is the day in 1957 when the electric typewriter was first sold. Today is Charles Lindbergh’s birthday. Lots of quotes but this is the one I like the best, “We must learn from the sermons of Christ, the wisdom of Lao-tzu, the teachings of Buddha.” I’m in total agreement with Mr. Lindbergh. This is the day that Liberace stopped living. The flamboyant entertainer said, “When the reviews are bad I tell my staff that they can join me as I cry all the way to the bank.” And now it’s time to get started on my day. You be sure and Abide.
