Ra will rise on December 29, 2023. Every living thing on earth gets its energy either directly or indirectly from the sun. That’s a good enough reason to make it a God. Personally, I’m grateful that it’s out there for our planet to orbit so I can exist, even for the short time I will. I’m also grateful that it’s National Chocolate Day, just like it was yesterday. Chocolate is so good it gets 2 days. It’s also No Interruptions Day, Pepper Pot Day, Still Need to do Day and Tick Tock Day. Now let’s learn something we didn’t know about our past. On this day in 1566 Danish student and future astronomer Tycho Brache lost part of his nose in a sword duel over who was the better mathematician. He wore a prosthetic nose for the rest of his life. On this day in 1835 the Treaty of New Echota was signed between the US Government and representatives of a minority Cherokee political faction that ceded all lands of the Cherokee East of the Mississippi River. On this day in 1862 the bowling ball was invented. On this day in 1890 the Wounded Knee Massacre took place when the US 7th Cavalry massacred over 250 captive Sioux men, women and children at Wounded Knee South Dakota. 19 soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor for their part in the mass shooting. In 1990 Congress passed a resolution expressing “deep regret” for the massacre. It’s a good place to move into the quotes section. Today we will hear from several Native Americans: “So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.” Tecumseh. “We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” Dakota proverb. “Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Walk beside me that we may be as one.” Ute saying. “Be happy in order to live long. Worry makes you sick.” Hopi saying. “One does not sell the land people walk on.” Crazy Horse. I’ll end with this quote from Tecumseh, “When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.” Abide.
