It’s become the 10th day of November 2023. I’m going to start this post with a quote from Marcus Aurelius. He said, “Reject your sense of injury and the injury itself disappears.” Understand that the people who really run this country and the world, want to enflame your sense of injury. Their goal is to divide and then profit from angry distracted populations. I agree with Marcus who suggests that you reject, ignore, abide and enjoy life. Today is Forget-Me-Not-Day, International Accounting Day (boring), Sesame Street Day, National Vanilla Cupcake Day, American Frog Day, Veteran’s Day, and the United States Marine Coups Birthday. On this day in 1619 Rene Descartes had a dream that inspired his “Meditations on First Philosophy” in which he attempted to prove the existence of God. How brave was he to risk publishing such a book which could have resulted in a charge of heresy and being burned at the stake? On this day in 1674 the Dutch formally cede New Netherlands (New York) to the English. On this day in 1775 the Second Continental Congress forms Continental Marines, precursor to the United States Marine Corps. On this day in 1793 France ended the forced worship of God. On this day in 1801 Kentucky outlawed dueling. This is the day in 1885 that German engineer Gottlieb Daimler unveils the world’s first motorcycle. In 1908 on this day the first Gideon Bible is placed in a hotel room. This is the day that Andrew Carnegie formed the Carnegie Corporation for scholarly and charitable works. On this day in 1940 Walt Disney begins serving as an informer for the Los Angeles office of the FBI; his job is to report back information on Hollywood subversives. Since I started with Descartes, I’ll end with him. Rene said, “Except our own thoughts, there is nothing absolutely in our power.” “Doubt is the origin of wisdom.” “The only thing that I know is that I know nothing.” “How can you be certain that your whole life is not a dream?” “The chief cause of human errors is to be found in the prejudices picked up in childhood.” “I can doubt everything, except one thing, and that is the very fact that I doubt. Simply put, I think, therefore I am.” Enough for today. Abide.
