Today’s name is September 21, 2023. If I wasn’t writing this post right now, I’d be reading the news. I would be planting the seeds of discontent. Instead, I’m putting on my personal armor to protect myself from the chaos which I will encounter as soon as I’m done writing. Writing this prepares me to meet the day. I hope reading it helps you in some small way to be happy today. It’s International Banana Festival, International Day of Listening. Miniature Golf Day, National Ask an Atheist Day, National Chai Day, National Pecan Cookie Day, Pause the World Day, World Alzheimer’s Day, and World Gratitude Day. Now some history to put the present in context: On this day in 1348 the Jews of Zurich, Switzerland were accused of poisoning the wells. This was during the Plague. On this day in 1776 Nathan Hale who was sent by Washington to spy on the British was arrested. On this day in 1780 Benedict Arnold gave British Major John Andre plans to West Point. On this day in 1895 America’s first automotive manufacturer, the Duryea Motor Wagon Company was founded. It would continue to build automobiles until 1917. On this day in 1922 the Wallal expedition of astronomers took place in Australia. They took a photograph of a total solar eclipse and by doing so proved Einstein’s Theory of Relativity by showing that space is curved around the sun. On this day in 1980 Bob Marley collapsed while jogging in NYC’s Central Park. A Medical exam would show that his cancer had spread. Bob died in May 11, 1981. I’ll use him as today’s quote source. Bob Marley said, “You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” “Money is numbers and numbers never end. If it takes money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end.” “Love, friendship, laughter… Some of the best things in life really are free.” “Love the life you live. Live the life you love.” “You may not be her first, her last, or her only. She loved before, she may love again. But if she loves you now, what else matters?” “Why drink and drive if I can smoke and fly?” Good one to end this post on. Have a happy day. Abide.
