This day is named August 2, 2023. I’ve adjusted my attitude to Positive. I’ve made the decision to be nice to people today. I’m going to do my best to make other people feel appreciated. I’ve got a plan. Today is Dinosaurs Day, National CAD Day, National Coloring Book Day, and National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. A short list but it does have ice cream in it and I like ice cream. Now onto history: On this day in 216 BC the Battle of Cannae took place between the Roman Army numbering around 86,000 troops and a smaller force of Carthaginians lead by Hannible who won the Battle by encircling the Roman troops and killing around 60,000 of them. Wow. On this day in 1776 the formal signing of the Declaration of Independence took place when 56 people placed their names on the document. On this day in 1790 the 1st US Census was completed. The population of the US was 3,939,214 which included 697,624 slaves. This is the day in 1865 that Lewis Carroll published “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. On this day in 1939 the Hatch Act went into effect prohibiting political activity by federal workers. On this day in 1943 an armed revolt by 800 prisoners at the Treblinka Extermination Camp took place. 200 escaped but only 100 survived. On the same day near the Solomon Islands, John F. Kennedy’s PT-boat 109 sank. On this day in 1969 Bob Dylan made a surprise appearance at his 10th high school reunion in Hibbing, Minnesota. Today’s dead person is the writer William S. Burroughs who managed to live until 1997. He said, “Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.” “There is nothing more provocative than minding your own business.” “NOTHING happens by coincidence.” The last quote for today is “Life is a vacation from two eternities. Who wants to waste those precious years worrying about what happens when you get back to forever?” That’s a good place to end. Abide.
