This day is called April 19th, 2023. From a weather standpoint, it’s going to be a very pleasant day. From every other standpoint, it’s pretty much up to you how this day will turn out. Fate, destiny and luck play a role but mostly it’s your outlook, what you think about, and how you react that will determine the quality of your day. My personal recommendation can be summed up in a single word: ‘Chill’, which is defined as “having a laid-back style or easy demeanor”. This is Bicycle Day, Humorous Day, National Amaretto Day, National Banana Day, National Garlic Day, National Stress Awareness Day, National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day, Oklahoma city Bombing Commemoration Day, and Rice Ball Day. Now to history: On this day in 531 Romans and the forces of the Sasanian Empire (what is now Iran) fought the Battle of Callinicum. 45,000 men killing each other with arrows, swords and spears. On this day in 1775 the American Revolution began in Lexington MA when militiamen faced off against British regulars. On this day in 1782 John Adams secured recognition of the United States and the house he purchased in The Hague became America’s first embassy. On this day in 1861 Lincoln ordered the blockade of Confederate ports. On this day in 1919 the French assembly decided on an 8-hour workday. On this day in 1927 Mae West was found guilty of “obscenity and corrupting the morals of youth”. She was fined $500 and 10 days in jail. The publicity launched her Hollywood career. This is the day in 1963 that Johnny Cash released “Ring of Fire” which was written by his future wife, June Carter. This is the day in 1824 that the poet Lord Byron died at the too young age of 36. He said, “A drop of ink may make a million think.” “What is drinking? A mere pause from thinking.” “Eat, drink and love; the rest is not worth a nickel.” “They used to say that knowledge is power. I used to think so, but I know now they mean money.” I’ll end with “Always laugh when you can; it is cheap medicine. Merriment is a philosophy not well understood. It is the sunny side of existence.” Abide.
