The 19th day of March has arrived. It’s a little colder than I’d like it to be but that’s a minor inconvenience. Life is good despite the chaos, fear, distrust, etc. that plaques mankind. Since I control what I think, I won’t think about the bad stuff. Problem solved, at least for me, at least for now. Today is Buzzard Day, Certified Nurses Day, Let’s Laugh Day, Mothering Sunday, National Backyard Day, National Poultry Day, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Day, and my pick: National Chocolate Caramel Day. Yum. Onto history: On this day in 1279 the Mongolian forces were victorious in the navel Battle of Yamen ending the Song Dynasty in China which ruled for over 300 years. There were over 1,000 ships involved in this battle. On this day in 1748 the Naturalization Act passed granting Jews the right to colonize North American colonies. This is the day in 1831 that the 1st US bank robbery took place. The bank was the City Bank of New York and the robbers got away with $245,000 (almost $9 million in 2023 dollars). On this day in 1931 Nevada legalized gambling. On this day in 1942 FDR ordered men between 45 and 64 to register for non-military duty. On this day in 1977 the last episode of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” was aired. Today’s dead person is Arther C. Clarke who was a science fiction writer that died in 2008 at the age of 90. I’ve read many of his books. Arther said, “Two possibilities exist: Either we are alone in the Universe, or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.” “New ideas pass through three periods: 1) it can’t be done. 2) It probably can be done but it’s not worth doing. 3) I knew it was a good idea all along!” “The difference between machines and human beings is that human beings can be reproduced by unskilled labor.” I’ll end with: “I don’t believe in God, but I am interested in her.” Have a great day. Abide.
