It’s March 18, 2023. It ss a unique, once in a lifetime day, just like yesterday was. I’m going to try to make this one better than that one was, not that yesterday was bad but it’s now history and today is what I’m focusing on. I want be a better person today than I was yesterday. Today is Awkward Moments Day, Forgive Mom and Dad Day, Goddess of Fertility Day, Maple Syrup Saturday, National Corndog Day, National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day, National Quilting Day, Play-the-Recorder Day, and National Sloppy Joe Day. For me it’s either the Corndog or the Sloppy Joe. History time: On this day in 978 Edward the Martyr, the teenage King of England was murdered. It is thought that he was killed by his stepmother so that she could place her own son on the throne. On this day in 1190 Crusaders killed 57 Jews in Bury St. Edmunds, England. If you read my post of yesterday, you will remember that Crusaders killed the Jews of York England. Obviously, the Crusade of 1190 was focused on killing the Jews living in England. On this day in 1662 the 1st public bus began service in Paris. On this day in 1818 Congress approved the 1st pensions for government service. On this day in 1911 North Dakota enacts a hail insurance law. If you grew up on the great plains as I did, you understand the importance of hail insurance to farmers. This is the day of the Great Tri-State Tornado which was an F5 with winds of over 300 MPH that traveled across Missouri, Illinois and Indiana killing 695, injuring over 2,000 and destroying 15,000 homes. Today the quotes come from Mr. Chuck Berry who died in 2017 at the age of 90. Chuck said, “Don’t let the same dog bite you twice.” “Of the 5 most important things in life, health is first, education or knowledge is second, and wealth is third. I forget the other two.” “I’m a millionaire, but I cut the grass. And each time I cut it, it’s my grass and that is satisfying.” “Roll over Beethoven, tell Tchaikovsky the news.” “It’s gotta be rock and roll music, if you wanna dance with me.” I miss Chuck Berry. Abide.
