It has become February 9th, 2023. I started this day meditating or as close as I ever get to that. I woke up and let my mind remember past good times. From my nice warm bed I was able to stroll through decades of my life and re-enjoy the high points. It’s a wonderful way to start a day. It may be the best 15 minutes of this day. I recommend it to everyone. Today’s list is excellent. It’s Chocolate Day. Giving Hearts Day, National Cut the Cord Day, National Develop Alternative Vices Day (sounds interesting), Read in the Bathtub Day, and Pizza Pie Day. Now to the history of February 9th: In 1267 the Synod of Breslau orders Jews of Silesia to wear special hats. Maybe this is where the Nazis came up with the idea of the Star of David on the sleeve? On this day in 1775 the British Parliament declared Massachusetts colony to be in rebellion. On this day in 1961 Jefferson Davis and Alexander Stephens were elected President and VP of the Confederate States of America. On this day in 1870 the US Army established the US National Weather Service. On this day in 1886 President Grover Cleveland declared a state of emergency in Seattle because of anti-Chinese violence. On this day in 1909 the US made illegal the importation, possession, and use of “smoking opium”. On this day in 1926 teaching the theory of evolution was forbidden in Atlanta schools. Within the last week, a bill was introduced in Montana doing the same thing. Today’s insights are provided by the Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky who died in 1881. He said, “A man who lies to himself, and believes his own lies becomes unable to recognize truth, either in himself or in anyone else.” “Life is a gift, life is happiness.” “I gave up caring about anything, and all the problems disappeared.” “You can be sincere and still be stupid.” Last one for today is “Wealth is the number of things one can do without.” Well, that’s a wrap on another day’s post. Abide.
