12.02.2022 is here. The day must have special meaning for numerologist. 2 is gentle, tactful, diplomatic, forgiving, and non-confrontational. Sounds good to me. Sounds like my kind of day. It’s also Bartender Appreciation Day, business of Popping Corn Day, Faux fur Friday, International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, International Sweater Festival, National Fritter Day, National Mutt Day, Play Basketball Day, Safety Razor Day, and Special Education Day. Today I will raise my glass to the bartenders of the world. Now let’s find out what our ancestors did on this day. On this day in 1804 General Napoleon Bonaparte was crowed Emperor of France. In 1823 President James Monroe declared the” Monroe Doctrine” opposing European colonialism in the Americas. On this day in 1845 President James K. Polk announced that the US should aggressively expand into the West. This was referred to as America’s “Manifest Destiny”. In 1859 on this day abolitionist John Brown was hung for murder, treason, and conspiring slaves to revolt. This is the day in 1927 when the 1st Model A was sold by Ford for $385 ($6,604 in 2022 dollars). On this day in 1938 the first “Kindertransport” carrying Jewish refugee children from Nazi Germany arrived in Britain. In 1952 on this day KOA-TV in Denver, Co became the first station to broadcast a human birth on public television. Now some advice from dead people. The first is the Marquis de Sade who said, “In order to know virtue, we must first acquaint ourselves with vice” and “Either kill me or take me as I am, because I’ll be damned if I ever change.” Next is Philip Larkin who was a British poet who died in 1985 on this day. Philip said, “We should be careful of each other, we should be kind while there is still time” and “You can’t put off being young until you retire.” I can’t find anymore quotes worthy of this post, so I’ll end with one from Dr. Seuss who is one of my favorite philosophers. He said, “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Good advice. Abide.
