The 5th day of October 2022 is here. In Central Florida, it’s only going to reach 81 degrees today. There’s another potential hurricane brewing in the Southern Caribbean. That isn’t a good thing. I do my best to try and not worry about things that haven’t happened yet, but I do make an exception for hurricanes. Today is Balloons Around the World Day, National Apple Betty Day, National Get Funky Day, National Kale Day, Do Something Nice Day, World Teachers Day, Yom Kippur, National Storytelling Day, and Random Acts of Poetry Day. Now some history: This is the day in 1789 that the women’s march to Versailles took place. The women of Paris were enraged by the cost of bread. Encouraged by political agitators, they became a mob of thousands, ransacked the city armory for weapons and marched on Versailles and forced the King and his court to return to Paris. It was the turning point in the French Revolution. On this day in 1877 Chief Joseph surrendered ending the Nez Perce War. On this day in 1892 all but one of the Dalton Gang was whipped out when they tried to rob two banks at the same time in Coffeyville, Kansas. The only member not killed was Emmett Dalton who after serving 14 years in prison moved to California and became a screenwriter in Hollywood. On this day in 1919 Norwegians voted in prohibition of spirits. Beer was not included. They decided in 1927 it was a bad idea. This is the day in 1969 that Monty Python’s Flying Circus began airing on the BBC TV. This is the day that the Shawnee Chief Tecumseh was killed in the Battle of the Thames in 1813. I like these two quotes: “When Jesus Christ came upon the Earth, you killed him. The son of your own God. And only after he was dead did you worship him and start killing those who would not.” “When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.” Abide.
