10.02.2022 is here. Most days it’s easy for me to establish a positive attitude. Some days not so much. This day is one of those. In golf, pool, tennis (probably) there is something called a pre-shot routine which is both a physical and mental process to you do before you swing the club or racket or shoot the shot. My pre-shot routine is to remind myself how lucky I am, the thankful for what I’ve got and to focus on this day. Thinking this is good, writing it is better. October 1 is Change a Light Day, Guardian Angels Day, International Day of Non-Violence, National Fried Scallops Day, National Name Your Car Day, National Smarties Day, and one I won’t be celebrating: World No Alcohol Day. Now some history. The Battle of Largs was fought on this day in 1263 between the Scots and the Norwegians. The Scots won and in so doing, ended 500 years of Viking invasions. On this day in 1789 George Washington transmitted the proposed Constitutional amendments 9Bill of Rights) to the States for ratification. This is the day in 1871 that Mormon leader, Brigham Young, was arrested for bigamy. On this day in 1893 the Cheniere Caminada hurricane, 3rd world hurricane in US history, killed 1,800 people in Louisiana. It hit as a category 4. On this day in 1950 the 1st “Peanuts” comic strip appeared. On this day in 1967 all band members of the Grateful Dead were arrested for possession of marijuana in San Francisco. Today’s dead person is Tom Petty who stopped singing songs in 2017. Lots of good quotes from Tom. Here are a few: “Do something you really like, and hopefully it pays the rent. As far as I’m concerned, that’s success.” “Buy me a drink, sing me a song; take me as I come, cause I can’t stay long.” “In a world that keeps on pushing me around, I’m gonna stand my ground, and I won’t back down.” “Most things I worry about never happen anyway.” Last one for today is this excellent piece of advice: “I think watching the TV news is bad for you. It’ is bad for your physical health and your mental health.” Abide
