The mile post reads 06.02.2022 which indicates that my 78th trip around the Sun has begun. My plan is to focus on each day and squeeze as much happiness as I can out of them. June 2nd is American Indian Citizenship Day, I Love My Dentist Day, National Rocky Road Day, National Rotisserie Chicken Day and National Bubba Day. When we became grandparents, we picked the names we’d like to be called by our grandchildren. Waste of time because our first one, Colten decided I was Bubba and that’s what they all call me. Now to some history. This is the day in 455 that King Gaiseric and the Vandals sacked and looted Rome for 14 days. On this day in 1763 was Pontiac’s Rebellion. At what is now Mackinaw City, Michigan, Chippewas capture Fort Michilimackinac by diverting the garrison’s attention with a game of lacrosse, then chasing a ball into the fort. Sneaky! This is the day in 1851 that the 1st alcohol prohibition law was passed (Maine). In 1855 the largely Irish population of Portland Maine rioted and the law was repealed in 1856. This is the day in 1989 that 10,000 Chinese soldiers were blocked by 100,000 citizens in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, protecting students demonstrating for democracy. It’s now quote time. This is the day in 2020 that the professional basketball player Wes Unseld died. Wes said, “It’s not my job to look good. It’s my job to make other people look good.” Wes was a team player. The actor Rex Harrison died on this day in 1990. He said, “Tomorrow is the thief of pleasure.” He’s suggesting that we focus on today and not worry about tomorrow. Let’s wrap this post up with a quote from the late David Eddings who was an author. David said, “We’re all entitled to a little stupidity now and then” and “Will you never grow up? I doubt it, and certainly hope not.” Abide.
