We welcome May 23rd, 2022. I’m optimistic today. My optimism, however, is limited to myself and my small bubble of reality. I remain mostly pessimistic about the rest of the world. The cool thing is that I’ve learned how to separate my reality from the chaos. Today is Lucky Penny Day, National Taffy Day, and World Turtle Day. Some days don’t have many events to celebrate. This is one of them. Therefore, I hereby declare, by the power invested in myself, that today is Drink More Red Wine Day. It’s good for your heart and helps your outlook on life. Now to the history of this day. This is the day in 1275 that King Edward of England ordered the cessation of persecution of French Jews. In 1430 on this day, Joan of Arc was captured and sold to England. This is the day in 1704 that Captain William Kidd was hanged in London after being convicted of piracy. This day in 1785 was when Benjamin Franklin announced his invention of the bifocal glasses. In 1861 on this day Virginia citizens voted 3 to 1 in favor of secession from the Union. On this day in 1903 the 1st automobile trip across the US left San Francisco for New York. They arrived in NYC on July 26. Finally, in 1934 on this day Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were killed by police in an ambush. On this day in 1937, at the age of 97, John D. Rockefeller died. He is considered the richest American to ever live. John said, “Success comes from keeping the ears open and the mouth closed.” “The secret of success is to get up early, work late and strike oil.” “Who is the poorest man in the world? I’ll tell you, the poorest man I know is the man who has nothing but money.” “I have made many millions, but they have brought me no happiness.” Let’s end this post with this question from John: “The only question with wealth is, what do you do with it?” John became a philanthropist and gave it away $540 million dollars which is over $10 billion today. Abide.
