5.20.2022. I’m going to start this post off with some quotes from the Dalai Lama who said, “The purpose of our lives is to be happy” and “My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.” One of the reasons I write this post each morning is to remind myself to focus on today and simply be happy. May 20th is Be a Millionaire Day, Eliza Doolittle Day, Flower Day, World Bee Day, Pick Strawberries Day, National Red Sneakers Day, National Pizza Party Day and National Quiche Lorraine Day. Now a ride in the way back machine. This is the day in 1293 that an earthquake stuck Kamakura Japan killing 30,000. On this day in 1310, shoes were first made for the right and left feet. In 1830, Hyde patented the fountain pen. In 1861 Kentucky proclaimed its neutrality in the Civil War. On this day in 1873 Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis patented the first blue jeans with copper rivets. Finally, on this day in 1916, 1917 and 1918, Codell, Kansas was hit by tornados. That’s an example of really bad luck. This is the day that SNL comedian Gilda Radner died too soon of cancer in 1989. She said, “I’ve learned what I can control is whether I am going to live a day in fear and depression and panic, or whether I am going to attack the day and make it as good a day, as wonderful a day, as I can.” Next is Honore de Balzar who was a French novelist who was born on this day in 1799. He said, “How natural it is to destroy what we cannot possess, to deny what we do not understand, and to insult what we envy.” This is John Stuart Mill’s birthday (1806). I end with this piece of advice from John: “I have learned to seek my happiness by limiting my desires, rather than in attempting to satisfy them.” Have an excellent day. Abide.
