May 7, 2022 has arrived. Research has confirmed that optimists outlive pessimists because they have less stress which results in a better immune system. The key is positive thinking. My goal is to avoid thinking about things that piss me off. I’m not totally there yet but getting better all the time. You should try it. We have a really long list of celebratory events today: National Cosmopolitan Day, National Homebrew Day, National Start Seeing Monarchs Day, Brunch For Lunch Day, and National Beer Pong Day. There’s lots more but that’s enough. Now history: On this day in 1718 the city of New Orleans was founded by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. Laissez les bons temps rouler! (Let the good times roll). On this day in 1840, a tornado struck Natchez, Mississippi, kills 317. In 1914 the US Congress established Mother’s Day. On this day in 1915 the RMS Lusitania was sunk by German submarine off the southern coast of Ireland; 1198 lives lost. This act was one of the primary reasons for the US to enter WWI. On this day in 1928 the United Kingdom lowered the age of women voters from 30 to 21. In 1970 on this day, “Long & Winding Road” became the Beatles’ last American release. This is the day in 1915 that Elbert Hubbard died. He was a writer, publisher, artist and philosopher. Elbert said, “I believe that the best way to prepare for a future life is to be kind, live one day at a time, and do the work you can do best, doing it as well as you can.” “Positive anything is better than negative nothing.” “In order to have friends, you must first be one.” “A goal without a plan is a dream.” I’ll end with this gem: “Man is not what he thinks he is, but what he thinks, he is.” Abide.
