It’s March 25th. Periodically I like to remind myself of my insignificance. I plan to be around several more years. 20 plus would be nice. 50 years after I make my exist, there won’t be anyone living who met me. I will be reduced to a name on a data base. What I do today really doesn’t matter. In other words, I’m free to do anything I want to do today. I choose to have fun and enjoy this day. It’s International Waffle Day, National Lobster Newburg Day, National Medal of Honor Day, Old New Year’s Day, and Pecan Day. I think I’ll make some oat flour waffles for breakfast. Now the history of 03/15. On this day in 1669 Mount Etna in Sicily erupted killing 20,000. In 1807 on this date, the British Parliament abolished the slave trade throughout the British Empire. On this day in 1863 the 1st US Army Medal of Honor was awarded to six soldiers. In 1882, the 1st demonstration of pancake making was held at a department store in New York City. On this day in 1965 Martin Luther King led 25,000 people from Selma AL to the steps of the Capitol in Montgomery AL to protest voting rights. Today we will visit the grave of the recently departed Larry McMurtry who was an author who died on this day last year. One of his books was “Lonesome Dove”. Larry said, “If you wait, all that happens is that you get older.” In other words, don’t put off things you want to do. He also said, “Only a rank degenerate would drive 1,500 miles across Texas without eating a chicken fried steak.” Having some experience with the culture of the plains, that’s a true statement. I think I’ll end this post with “The older the violin, the sweeter the music.” Abide.
