03.22.2022. Are you ready for this day? I’ve got a short list of things I need to do today. I’ve got plenty of diversions that I enjoy. My attitude is good. I’m healthy. I’m living in the moment. I’m ready to live this day. Today is As Young As You Feel Day, Gryffindor Pride Day (Harry Potter), National Agriculture Day, National Bavarian Crêpes Day, National Goof Off Day, World Water Day and National Sing Out Day. If you have a ukulele, Sing Out Day is for you. Now the footnotes of history. In 1622 on this day, the 1st American Indian (Powhatan) massacre of Europeans in Jamestown Virginia happened. 347 people were killed. In 1873 on this day, slavery was abolished in Puerto Rico. In 1933 FDR made wine and beer with up to 3.2% alcohol legal. I grew up with 3.2 beer and it worked just fine for me. On this day in 1941, movie star James Stewart was inducted into the Army. This is the day in 1954 that the largest shopping center in the world (Northland Center) opened in Southfield MI. On this day in 1963 the Beatles released their 1st album “Please Please Me”. Today is also the birthday of Louis L’Amour who wrote western novels. Louis said “Long ago I learned nothing gets done by wishing it. You have to do it.” “A ship does not sail with yesterday’s wind.” “I am somebody. I am me. I don’t need anybody to make me somebody.” I’ll end with “You stick your finger in the water and you pull it out, and that is how much of a hole you leave when you’re gone.” I like that quote. It gives me the freedom to do what I want. Abide.
