It’s now March 18th, 2022. Last night’s corn beef dinner was great, but today’s Reuben Sandwich will be even better. Seeded rye bread, corn beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing and then grilled with butter makes a sandwich almost as good as I would get at a New York deli. It’s Awkward Moments Day, National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day, National Sloppy Joe Day, Forgive Mom and Dad Day, Goddess Of Fertility Day and World Sleep Day. Now to the history of this day. On this day Crusaders killed 57 Jews in Bury St. Edmunds England. Strange because the Crusades were intended to free the Holy Land from the control of Muslims. Killing Jews in England was… practice? Moving on. On this day in 1662 the 1st public bus service began in Paris. In 1881 on this day Congress approved the 1st pensions for government service. On this day in 1834 the 1st railroad tunnel in US was completed in Pennsylvania (275 m long). This is the day in 1881 that the Barnum & Bailey Circus, travelling as “The Greatest Show on Earth”, began at Madison Square Garden in New York City and would last 146 years before closing in 2017. The first dead person we will visit is Erich Fromm who was a Jewish German humanistic philosopher died in 1980. He said, “To love somebody is not just a strong feeling. It is a decision, it is a judgment, it is a promise” and “The only truly affluent are those who do not want more than they have.” I agree with both of those quotes. I’ll end this post with a few quotes from one of my favorite entertainers: Mr. Chuck Berry who died on this day in 2017. Chuck said, “Don’t let the same dog bite you twice.” I’ll end with post with his (my opinion) his best song phrase: “It’s gotta be rock and roll music, if you wanna dance with me” and I’ll end with.“ Abide.
