03.02.2022 has arrived. I’m starting it the way I try to start every day. I remind myself that this is a unique day and will never to be repeated. That it can be any kind of a day that I decide it will be. I decide what I will think about and how I will treat the people I meet. I can, and I will, create my own reality. When I say that “it’s going to be a good day,” it’s not a prediction, it’s my plan. After all, it is National Banana Cream Pie Day, International Cat Rescue Day, Stop Bad Service Day, Old Stuff Day and National Read Across America Day. Now to history: On this day in 1789 Pennsylvania ended the prohibition of theatrical performances. Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts had banned them in 1759 because they had a “corrupting” influence. This is the date in 1796 Napoléon Bonaparte is appointed Commander-in-Chief of the French Army in Italy. In 1866 the 1st US company to make sewing needles by machine was incorporated. How did they make them before? On this day in 1867 the US Congress abolished peonage in New Mexico. Peonage is any form of wage labor in which a laborer has no control over employment conditions. When you can’t own slaves, having peons is the next best thing. On this day in 1933 the movie King Kong premiered at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Now to the cemetery and visit someone who died on this day. In 1930 at the age of 44, the writer D. H. Lawrence, who wrote “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” died. Here are a few of his quotes: “Life is ours to be spent, not to be saved.” “I want to live my life so that my nights are not full of regrets.” “What the eye doesn’t see and the mind doesn’t know, doesn’t exist.” I’m going to wrap this post up with a quote from Robert Adams who passed in 1997 who recommended “Do not look for signs. Do not look for experiences. Do not be so complicated. Become like a child. See everything with awe.” Good advice. Abide.
