Super Bowl Sunday has arrived. It’s February 13th, 2022. I’m anticipating a day filled with happiness. Same as yesterday. Same as tomorrow. I’m grateful to be able to live this day, be with my family and friends and get to watch what should be a good football game. Today there are numerous events to consider. It’s Kiss Day, Dream A Sweet Dream Day, Get a Different Name Day, Man Day, Madly in Love With Me Day, Crab Rangoon Day, Super Chicken Wing Day, National Cheddar Cheese Day and National Tortellini Day. The Now let’s see what historical events happened on this date: This is the day in 1258 that Baghdad, then a city of 1 million people fell to the Mongols. Tens of thousands of people were killed, and this marks the ending of the Islamic Golden Age. In 1633 on this date, Galileo arrived in Rome to be tried for stating his belief that the earth revolves around the Sun. This is the date in 1777 that Marquis de Sade was arrested without charge and imprisoned. My guess is that his imprisonment had something to do with someone’s wife or daughter. He said, “In order to know virtue, we must first acquaint ourselves with vice.” In 1942 Hitler’s Operation Sea Lion, the invasion of England, is cancelled because the German couldn’t achieve air superiority over the coast of England. I never knew that. This is one of those rare days when I can’t find anyone to quote. So, I’ll end with some from one of the great Dudes of history: Lao Tzu who died in 531 BC. Lao said, “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” “If you don’t change direction, you may end up where you are headed.” A good one to end on is: “Be content with what you have, rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” Enjoy the game and be sure to Abide.
