This day is named January 27, 2022. A fine day in my opinion. If today was a buffet, I’d only take what I liked and have two desserts. Actually, that’s my plan for today… and every day. 01/27 is Clashing Clothes Day, Punch The Clock Day, National Geographic Day, Vietnam Peace Day, Thomas Crapper Day and National Chocolate Cake Day which is my pick for today. Mr. Crapper didn’t invent the flush toilet, but he did manufacture them. Now to history. In 1591 Scottish schoolmaster Dr. John Fian was burned for witchcraft by King James VI. He was one of the victims of the Berwick witch trials. 70 people, mostly women were charged, tortured and usually burned at the stake. On this day in 1825 Congress approved the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma), clearing the way for the forced relocation of the Eastern Indian tribes now called the “Trail of Tears. “In 1888, the National Geographic Society was founded in Washington, D.C. In 1944, the Siege of Leningrad was lifted after 880 days and more than 2 million Russians killed. On this day in 1967 a fire in the Apollo 1 Command Module killed astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger B. Chaffee during a launch rehearsal. Today is the birthday (1832) of Lewis Carroll who authored Alice in Wonderland. He said, “One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others” and “I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” This is also the day that the Pulitzer Prize author John Updike died in 2009. John said, “I like old men. They can be wonderful bastards because they have nothing to lose. The only people who can be themselves are babies and old bastards.” With that, I’ll take my leave. Abide.
