It is now January 26, 2022. I get to live another day. I will do my best to appreciate the small things that happen on this day. Think positively. Be kind to everyone I meet. It’s not hard to be happy if you decide that’s how you want to live each day. Let’s see what the Commission has come up with for today: International Customs Day, Library Shelfie Day, Spouse’s Day, Toad Hollow Day of Encouragement, National Green Juice Day and my pick, National Peanut Brittle Day. Now to the history of this day: On this day in 1482 the “Pentateuch”, the Jewish Bible was first printed as a book in Bologna, Italy. On this day in 1784 Benjamin Franklin expressed unhappiness over the eagle as America’s symbol. In 1837 on this day Michigan was admitted as the 26th state. In 1838 Tennessee enacted the first prohibition law in the US and made moonshining a paying occupation. In 1915 on this day the Rocky Mountain National Park was established. On this day in 1954 groundbreaking began for Disneyland. Today is Paul Newman’s birthday. Born in 1925 and died in 2008. Paul said, “A man can only be judged by his actions, and not by his good intentions or his beliefs” and “What could be better than to hold your hand out to people less fortunate than you are? He was truly a good guy. I’m going to wrap up today’s post with some thoughts from Louis Auchincloss who was an American writer, historian, and essayist. Louis said, “Keep doing good deeds long enough, and you’ll probably turn out a good man in spite of yourself” and “A man can spend his whole existence never learning the simple lesson that he has only one life and that if he fails to do what he wants with it, nobody else really cares.” Abide.
