It’s now January 4th, 2022. I’m going to start this post with a quote from one of my favorite philosophers: Dr. Seuss who said, “Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered.” When we inevitably end, we’ll all be remembered for a short time. What would you like people to remember you for? Something to think about. Today we can celebrate National Spaghetti Day, National Trivia Day, Tom Thumb Day, Pop Music Chart Day or World Hypnotism Day. Tom Thumb was an English fairy tale character. He was the size of your thumb. This day isn’t for him. It’s for General Tom Thumb who was a dwarf in P. T. Barnum’s circus. Now let’s look at the historical events of this day. On this day in 1642 King Charles attacked the English Parliament with 400 soldiers. He believed in the Divine Right of the Kind and the English Parliament didn’t. Parliament won. In 1847 Samuel Colt sold his first revolver pistol to the United States government. In 1863 the 4 wheeled roller skate was patented by James Plimpton of NY. In 1903 Topsy the elephant was electrocuted by her owners at Luna Park, Coney Island and filmed by Edison Manufacturing movie company. On this day in 1954 Elvis recorded his 1st demo for Sun Records in Memphis. This is the day in 1960 that the French author, philosopher, and Nobel Prize winner Albert Camus died at the age of 44. Albert said, “Life is a sum of all your choices. So, what are you doing today?” “Life is meaningless, but worth living, provided you recognize it’s meaningless.” I think he means that you shouldn’t take yourself too seriously. He also said, “There are causes worth dying for, but none worth killing for. “  I’ll wrap this up with this one: “Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.” Abide.
