This post is about December 13th, 2021. I will try and make it a better day than yesterday. That will be difficult. Yesterday was filled with family, chocolate, sugar, flour, and sprinkles with some wine on the side. Hard to beat a day like that. Its now only a memory. When I was growing up on the farm, I remember helping dad make ice cream with a hand crank ice cream maker. Onto history: On this day in 1636 The Massachusetts Bay Colony organized 3 militia regiments to defend the colony against the Pequot Indians. This organization is recognized today as the founding of the United States National Guard. This is the day in 1759 that the first music store in America opened in Philadelphia. On this day in 1774, Paul Revere rode to warn Portsmouth that the British were coming. On this date in 1928 the clip-on tie was designed. In 1975 on this day, Saturday Night Live used a time delay when Richard Pryor hosted the show. That was probably a smart move. This is the day in 1961 that Grandma Moses, at the age of 101, died. She didn’t start painting until she was 78. She said, “I look back on my life like a good day’s work, it was done and I am satisfied with it.” If my life were a book, that’s how I would like to end it. This is also the day in 1784 that the English poet Samuel Johnson’s life ended. He said many things that resonate with me. Here are a few: “Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.” “The future is purchased by the present.” “Advice is seldom welcome.
