The numeric designation for this area of time/space is 12.02.2021. Yesterday my plan was to savor the day. I did. It was a wonderful day. From it I took three moments that I will do my best to remember in detail. These three moments made me feel good. I do my best to remember moments of pleasure, happiness, and friendship so I can bring them back to enjoy again. My memories of pain, anger, and frustration are kept in a dark place I seldom visit. Life is too short to dwell on bad memories. Moving on, It’s National Fritters Day, Business of Popping Corn Day, International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, Play Basketball Day, Mutt Day and Safety Razor Day. Now to the history of this day: 1804 Napoleon Bonaparte was crowned Emperor of France. On this day in 1816 the first savings bank opened in Philadelphia. On this day in 1823 President James Monroe declared the Monroe Doctrine which states that European political intervention in the Americas would be considered a hostile act against the United States. In 1859, abolitionist John Brown is hung for murder, treason, and conspiring slaves to revolt at Charles Town, Virginia. This is the day in n1814 that the Marquis de Sade died at the age of 74. He was a French nobleman, revolutionary, politician and philosopher. The word “Sadism” is derived from his name. He said, “Either kill me or take me as I am, because I’ll be damned if I ever change.” This is the day in 1985 that the British poet Philip Larkin assumed room temperature. Philip said, “We should be careful / Of each other, we should be kind/ While there is still time.” I normally only give two quote sources but today I’ll give you a third from the Canadian novelist Robertson Davies who died in 1995. He said, The world is full of people whose notion of a satisfactory future is, in fact, a return to the idealized past.” Think on that one. And, be sure to Abide.
