It’s now November 29, 2021. Another day to live. For me, it will be a very good day. Over time I’ve learned to let go of the past, ignore most of the future and live in the present. Easy to say, not easy to do. I’ve spent decades learning how to be content. Buddha, Leo Tzu and the Dude have helped. If I can do it, you can do it. This is The Customer Is Wrong Day, Throw Out The Leftovers Day, Cyber Monday, National Square Dance Day, Chocolates Day and Lemon Creme Pie Day. I like pie so I’ll celebrate that day today. On this day in 1349 the Jews of Augsburg Germany were massacred. This was during the Black Death. The killers were pardoned by the King. On this day in 1781 the crew of the slave ship Zong murdered 142 salves by throwing them overboard at sea to claim the insurance. On this day in 1870 compulsory education began when a law was passed requiring all children to attend school. This is the date in 1910 when the traffic light was patented. On this day in 1933 the first liquor store was authorized in Pennsylvania. In 1944 the first open heart surgery was performed at John Hopkins. Today is the birthday of C. S. Lewis who was a British author. He said, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” Since I couldn’t find any people who died on this day to quote, I’ll wrap this up with some of the wisdom of Leo Tzu: “I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience and compassion. These three are your greatest treasures” and “If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.” Abide.
