This is the 15th day of November 2021. I woke up thinking about someone I met yesterday. He’s been battling cancer for several years and has told his doctors to stop. I asked him, without thinking, “how long have you got?” He said “6 months but they might be wrong. Then he smiled and said, “I’m ready to die”. I’m impressed by his attitude. I wrote a song titled “we’re all just killing time until we die”. My goal is to have as much fun as we can while I wait. Today is American Enterprise Day, George Spelvin Day (I’ll explain in a second), I Love To Write Day (I do), National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day, National Raisin Brand Cereal Day, National Bundt Day and National Spicy Hermit Cookie Day. George or Georgette is a name used in the credits of a play or movie if a character plays two parts or if the actor hasn’t been picked when the program was printed, etc… Now you know. Onto history: On this date in 1492, Columbus noted the 1st recorded reference to tobacco. On this day in 1881 the American Federation of Labor (AFL) was founded in Pittsburgh. In 1937 on this day the first US congressional session in air-conditioned chambers takes place. This is the day in 1969 that an estimated 2 million people take part in the Vietnam War Moratorium demonstration across the United States. It’s the same day that Janes Joplin is accused of vulgar & indecent language in Tampa, Florida. Since I started this post talking about death, I’ll give you a few quotes on this subject. Ashley Montagu said “This idea is to die young, as late as possible.” Benjamin Franklin said, Some people die at 25 but aren’t buried until 75.” Giovanni Falcone said, “he who doesn’t fear death dies only once.I’ll end with a quote from the poet Emily Dickinson who said, “Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me. The carriage held but just ourselves and immortality.” Abide
