The sign reads 10.10.2021. I’ve decided it’s going to be a good day for me. In the brief 5 minutes before my coffee was ready, I browsed the news, which is as bad as usual. Oh well. I can’t fix the mess we’ve gotten ourselves into and therefore, it does me no good to worry about it. Besides, it’s not my job. My job is to have fun and enjoy this day. This is National Forget Me Not Day, International Accounting Day (boring), Sesame Street Day, National Vanilla Cupcake Day and the United States Marine Coups Birthday. I’ll take a cupcake if you’ve got a spare. On this day in 1674 the Dutch formally ceded New Netherlands (New York) to the English. On this day in 1775 the Second Continental Congress formed the Continental Marines, precursor to the United States Marine Corps. This is the day in 1885 that German engineer Gottlieb Daimler unveiled the world’s first motorcycle. In 1908 on this day the first Gideon Bible was placed in a hotel room. On this day in 1940 Walt Disney began an informer for the Los Angeles office of the FBI; his job is to report back information on Hollywood subversives. I didn’t know that. I’ve looked through the obituaries for some good quotes and found none. It happens. So, I’ll end this post where I started it. Walter Hagen the golfer said, “You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry and be sure to smell the flowers along the way.” Eric Davis said, “Life is too short to worry about anything. You had better enjoy it because the next day promises nothing.  I’ll end with a quote from Leo Buscaglia who said “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.” Now I’m ready to start living this wonderful, filled with flowers day. Abide.
