I woke up in October 29, 2021. As often happens, I start thinking about what how I’m going to start this post and it came to me. Life is like a roller coaster. Our first memories are being on the coaster. At some point we top the crest of the first hill and off we go. All we know is that there will be ups and downs, highs and lows, that it may seem slow at times but it’s a fast ride. I’ve made it through most of it and am now in that part of the ride that takes me back to where I started. For me, it’s been a good ride so far. I hope to ride it again but that’s a subject for another post. Today is National Cat Day, National Hermit Day, Frankenstein Friday, National Bread Stick Day and National Oatmeal Day. I’ll go with a bowl of the steel cut oatmeal with fruit for breakfast. Now we can look at the ups and downs of previous rides: On this day in 1390, the first witchcraft trials were held in Paris. Witchcraft trials would continue until 1731. This is the day in 1618 that he English adventurer, writer and courtier Walter Raleigh was beheaded. After he saw the axe that would be used to cut off his head he said, “This is a sharp medicine, but it is a physician for all diseases and miseries.” On this day in 1833 the 1st US College fraternity to have a fraternity house was founded. I can’t find when the first toga party was held. This is the day in 1929 named “Black Tuesday” when Wall Street Stock Market crashes triggering the “Great Depression”. On this day in 1942 Nazis murdered 16,000 Jews in Pinsk, Soviet Union. Today is lee Child’s birthday. He is one of my favorite authors (Jack Reacher series). Lee said “Don’t be sad that roses have thorns. Be glad that thorns have roses” and “I’m a rich man. To have everything you need is the definition of affluence.” Today is also the birthday of Bob Ross the television painter. Always upbeat and positive. Bob said, “Whatever makes you happy, you put in your world.” “The secret to doing anything is believing you can do it.” I’ll end with “It’s so important to do something every day that will make you happy.” I agree with Bob. Abide.
