We’ve traveled halfway through the time/space designated September 2021. It’s day 15 of this journey. For me the trip has been smooth. You might even call it a joy ride. Nothing special, no monumental events either good or bad. Just a nice peaceful ride through time. Today we can celebrate Butterscotch Cinnamon Pie Day which I don’t ever recall eating. Sounds yummy. It’s also Get Ready Day, Greenpeace Day, Make A Hat Day, Caregivers Day, International Day Of Democracy, National Double Cheeseburger Day, National Cheese Toast Day, National Linguine Day, National Crème de Menthe Day, Someday (?) and National Thank You Day. There’s more but this is enough. Now into the way back machine: On this day in 1616 the 1st free public school in Europe was opened in Frascati, Italy. On this day in 1762 the Battle of Signal Hill took place which was the last battle in North American of the Seven Years’ War. We also call it the French Indian war. On this day in 1821 the Act of Independence of Central America was signed as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua declared their independence from the Spanish Empire. Finally, on this day in 1923 Governor Walton of Oklahoma declared state of siege because of Ku Klux Klan terror. This is the day in 1967 that Bhagat Singh Thind died. He was an Indian American writer on spirituality. He served in the Army during WWI. He said, “Sow today what you would love to harvest in the days to come” and “Minds are like parachutes, they only function when they are open”. In 2019 the singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer Ric Ocasek died at the age of 75. Ric said, “When you get tired of fitting in, you truly become yourself” and “Refusing to ask for help when you need it is refusing someone the chance to be helpful”. I admit that today’s quotes are scattered but each stands on its own. That’s enough for this day. Hope you decide to have a good one like I have. Abide.
