We’ve successfully negotiated our journey through time and space designated as August 2021. It’s the 31st day. For many people, this month has been both difficult and deadly. I feel almost guilty for feeling so good. I possess sufficient common sense to be vaccinated. I’m lucky I don’t live in the path of Ida. I’ve got air conditioning. Life continues to be good. I’m grateful. This day is Eat Outside Day, Love Litigating Lawyers Day, National Trail Mix Day, National Matchmaker Day and We Love Memoirs Day. Now to this day in history: In 1864 on this day, Union forces led by General William T. Sherman launched the assault on Atlanta. This is the day in 1897 that Thomas Edison patented the Kinetoscope which was the first movie projector. This is the day in 1939 that Nazi Germany mounted a false flag attack on the Gleiwitz radio station, creating an excuse to attack Poland the following day, thus starting World War II in Europe. The Nazis wanted to start the war so they created an incident, blamed Poland and went to war. This is the day in 2006, Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream, stolen on August 22, 2004, was recovered in a raid by Norwegian police. This is the birthday of William Saroyan, born in 1910. He was a novelist, playwright, and short story writer. He said, “What people talk about means something. What people don’t talk about means something”, and “Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough”. Both insightful statements. On this day in 1979 we lost Sally Rand. She was a burlesque dancer, actress and most noted for her ostrich feather fan dance. Sally said, “If you love living, you try to take care of the equipment” and “I haven’t been out of work since the day I took my pants off”. She must have been a fun lady to be around. I’m now done with my posts for August 2021. Abide.
