Yesterday became July 26th, 2021 while I slept last night. A brand new, never used, open slate day has arrived and we get to live it. I realize that I often open my posts with this theme. I need to remind myself to not take every day I get to live for granted. Every day is precious. I don’t want to miss Aunt and Uncle’s Day, National All Or Nothing Day, National BagelFest Day, World Tofu Day and National Coffee Milkshake Day. I’ll throw caution to the wind and celebrate tofu. I dry it and fry it. On this day in 1533 Francisco Pizarro ordered the death of the last Sapa Inca Emperor, Atahualpa. Pizarro had captured Atahualpa in November of 1532 at the Battle of Cajamarca when 128 Spanish troops attacked and killed 7,000 Incas and captured him. None of the Spanish troops were seriously injured. On this day in 1878 In California, poet and American West outlaw calling himself “Black Bart” makes his last clean getaway when he steals a safe box from a Wells Fargo stagecoach. The empty box was found later with a taunting poem inside: “I’ve labored long and hard for bread/ For honor and for riches/ But on my corns too long you’ve treed/ You fine haired Sons of Bitches.” I’ve already told you that Atahualpa was killed on this day, I’ll give you one of his quotes: “You worship a God who died on a tree; we worship the sun, which never dies.” Today is Mick Jagger’s birthday. I’ll end with a couple of his quotes: “There’s no absolutes in life – only vodka” and “Don’t take life too seriously and always remember: it is just a passing fad.” He’s 78 years old and still touring to sold out stadiums. Abide.
