The end of June has arrived. It’s the 30th day. Yesterday was a tough one for a lot of people. We lost Will Stone. If you knew him, you probably loved him. He was that kind of a person. His passing is another reminder to make every day you have as good as you can. Today we don’t have many events selected by the Commission. It’s International Asteroid Day, International Sailor Moon Day, International Asteroid Day, National Meteor Day, National Organization for Women Day and Social Media Day. Not going to be many mini parties going on with these choices. Now let’s fire up the way back machine. On this day in 1520 Spanish conquistadors were expelled from Tenochtitlan following an Aztec revolt against Hernán Cortés during “La Noche Triste” (the Night of Sadness). There were between 600 and 1,000 Spaniards with 20,000 Native allies going up against 50,000 Aztec fighting with spears, swords and arrows. Wow. This is the day in 1859 that the French acrobat, Charles Blondin was the 1st person to cross Niagara Falls on a tightrope. On this day in 1906 the US Congress passed the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act. Upton Sinclair had written a book about the meatpacking industry (The Jungle) which caused a public outcry and forced the government to act. This is Susan Hayward’s birthday (1917). She was a movie star. She said, ” When you’re dead, you’re dead. No one is going to remember me when I’m dead…. Being remembered isn’t the most important thing, anyhow. It’s what you do when you are here that’s important.” This is the day in 2001 that guitarist Chet Atkins stopped living at the age of 77. Chet said, “Years from now, after I’m gone, someone will listen to what I’ve done and know I was here. They may not know or care who I was, but they’ll hear my guitars speaking for me.” That wraps up today’s post. I will not take my leave and start road trip 2021 for the next several weeks. laissez les bon temps rouler and be sure to Abide.
