We’ve finally arrived at the 15th day of June, 2021. We have tropical storm Bill churning out in the Atlantic off the coast of Virginia, a possible hurricane developing in the Gulf of Mexico and another one moving toward the US from Africa. It’s summer in Florida. Despite the downside of the Sunshine state, it’s a good place to be. Its’ National Fly A Kite Day, Magna Carta Day, National Smile Power Day, National Electricity Day, National Kiss a Wookiee Day, National Lobster Day, National Photography Day and Native American Citizenship Day. Cherry tarts remind me of cherry pie and that’s always a good pick. Onto history: On this day in 1667 the 1st fully documented human blood transfusion was performed by French physician, when a small amount of sheep’s blood was transfused into a 15-year old boy who survives the procedure. On this day in 1844 Charles Goodyear patented the vulcanization of rubber. Vulcanization is a process to harden rubber. This is the day in 1878 that the world’s first moving pictures caught on camera (used 12 cameras, each taking 1 picture) was done to see if all 4 of a horse’s hooves left the ground when galloping. On this day in 2016, a writer, novelist, poet, and journalist named Lois Duncan stopped living. I really like this quote from her: “If there were a mile high mountain of granite, and once every ten-thousand years a bird flew past and brushed it with a feather, by the time that mountain was worn away, a fraction of a second would have passed in the context of eternity”. Her analogy reminds me of how short our lives are and that I shouldn’t take a single one of them for granted. Now, I’m going to try and make this day an excellent adventure. Abide.
