Only a few more days left in this very good month of May 2021. What a difference a year makes. I’m back to where I was. Going through a socially distanced pandemic provides a measurement of how good it is to be where I’m at right now. As James Brown said, “I feel good!!” May 25th is Geek Pride Day, National Brown Bag It Day, National Tap Dance Day, Towel Day and my celebratory selection, National Wine Day. I will raise a glass of cabernet sauvignon to celebrate my good fortune. On this day in 1720, the Ship “Le Grand St Antoine” reached Marseille, bringing Europe’s last major plague outbreak. Kills around 100,000. This is the day in 1927 that Henry Ford announced the end of the Model T production. This day marks a riot at Mobile, Alabama, shipyard over upgrading 12 black workers in 1943. In 1955 on this day a series of 19 twisters destroyed Udall Kansas and most of Blackwell Oklahoma. Finally, in 1961 President Kennedy announced the US goal of putting a man on the Moon before the end of decade. This is Ralph Waldo Emerson’s birthday. He was an essayist, lecturer, philosopher, abolitionist and poet. Waldo said, “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” This is the day in 2020 that George Floyd died. No quotes, only an observation: When the field is dry, it only takes one spark. I’ll end this with one more quote from Waldo who said, “You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.” Have a good day. Abide.
