That’s why I start my day writing this post. I hope to be doing this for another 20 years. Who knows? Could happen. Today is National Rat Pack Day, National Mushroom Hunting Day, National Cherry Cobbler Day, National Walnut Day and Pinot Grigio Day. For me it’s a toss up between the cobbler and the wine. Now we will look at the history of this day. This date in 1536 was when Anne Boleyn was beheaded after being found guilty of high treason. She was Henry VIII’s second wife and could not produce a son. On this day in 1620 the 1st merry-go-round was seen at a fair in Philippapolis, Turkey. In 1775 during the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress banned trade with Canada. In 1792, 24 merchants formed the New York Stock Exchange at 70 Wall Street. On this day in 1946 President Harry Truman seized control of our railroad system to delay a strike. Today is the birthday of Bartholomew Roberts. He was a Welsh pirate and the most successful pirate of the Golden Age of Piracy (measured by vessels captured) taking over 400 prizes in his career. He said, “A merry life and a short one shall be my motto.” He died in battle at the age of 39. This is also the day that Lawrence Welk stopped playing his accordion. My parents loved to watch him. I was not a fan. He said, “There are good days and there are bad days, and this is one of them.” Now it’s totally up to you to live this good or bad day. It’s up to you. Abide.
